Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions related to chat sharing.

The share button is grayed out

The AI is generating a response. Wait for the response to complete before sharing. The button will become active once the AI finishes.

The chat has not been saved yet. Send at least one message to create the chat. You cannot share a blank conversation.

You do not have permission. Only the chat owner and workspace admins can share. If you received access to this chat from someone else, you cannot re-share it. Hover over the grayed-out icon for a tooltip explaining the specific reason.

A colleague cannot open the shared chat link

They are not signed in. The link requires authentication. Ask them to sign in to their workspace account first.

They are in a different workspace. Shared chats are scoped to a single workspace. Confirm that both of you are members of the same workspace.

They were not added to the share list. Open the share dialog and verify their name appears in the "Shared with" list. If not, add them.

They were added through a group, but are not a group member. Check with your workspace admin that the person is actually a member of the group you shared with.

A shared user sees an error page instead of the chat

Access may have been revoked. Check the share dialog to see if their entry was removed.

The chat may have been deleted. If the chat owner deleted the conversation, the link will no longer work for anyone.

Browser cache. Ask the user to refresh the page or try opening the link in a private/incognito window.

Changes to the chat are not visible to shared users

Shared users see the latest version of the conversation whenever they open or refresh the page. If the chat owner sends new messages after sharing, those messages will be visible to shared users on their next page load.

There is no automatic live refresh for shared viewers. They need to reload the page to see new messages.

Removing someone's access did not take effect

Access changes take effect immediately at the server level. However, if the user already has the page open, they may still see the content until they refresh or navigate away. On their next request, the server will deny access.

I shared with a group but only some members can see it

Verify the group membership in your workspace settings. Only users who are active members of the group at the time they open the link will have access. If someone was added to the group after the chat was shared, they should be able to access it on their next attempt.

I am a workspace admin but cannot see the share button

The share button is visible to:

  • The chat owner (always).
  • Workspace admins viewing a chat they own.

If you are a workspace admin viewing someone else's chat through the admin interface, the share management may be accessible through the workspace admin tools rather than the in-chat share button.

Still need help?

If your issue is not covered here, contact your workspace administrator. They have access to manage permissions for all chats and can investigate access issues from the admin panel.
